The E111 form was replaced by the European Health Insurance Card at the end of December 2005.
This card entitles British citizens to reduced cost, sometimes even free, medical treatment while you're in a European EU country (and Switzerland).
It's normally valid for up to three years. This card will cover you for any medical treatment necessary during you trip caused by either illness or an accident.
The EHIC will give you access to state-provided medical treatment only. This means you'll be treated on the same basis as an "insured" person living in the country you?re visiting. You?ll be covered for any chronic disease too, but not if they suspect that this is the main purpose of your trip.
't got your new card yet you should contact your own country's local Department of Health. In the UK, you can check out their website or call the EHIC Applications Line on 0845 606 2030. EHIC application packs are also available from your local (UK) post office.
